Honey, Lend Me Some Credibility

Why do we harp on loveless romances

When a loveless life is perhaps more satisfying?

At least, it’s free of pretence

Of the non-existent validation and ‘irrational’ crying

It might sound cheesy and clichéd

Cynical in the true sense of

First world entitlement and stunted vision

But, alas the fact remains

That a happiness only imagined

Is much worse than one never gained

Maybe it’s the friends and family

The legitimacy of Adam and Eve

The conviction that surely,

Neither was ever worth anything without the other

So we harp on

About loveless romances

Rather than loveless lives

As a life well lived is worth much less

Than a life well televised.
